Our car insurance policies have an open driver policy, unless a special term has been applied to your policy. This means that any licenced driver who has your permission to drive your car, will be automatically covered, provided they comply with our policy conditions and any applicable licence conditions. For example, drivers must not have any unacceptable traffic or criminal convictions and must not have had any unacceptable claims or accidents (for example, a driver using the car illegally).
Please see your policy document for more information on all policy conditions that you and your drivers must comply with.
It’s important to note that excesses relating to age and driving experience may apply to you and your drivers. Please see your policy schedule for excesses that may apply and to determine if a special term has been applied to your policy.
Any drivers who will be regularly driving your car should be added to your policy. This is a quick and simple process and ensures you know they are covered should you need to make a claim.
If you have any questions about who is covered to drive your car or if you’d like to add a driver to your policy, please contact us. Alternatively, you can add a driver to your policy using My AA Insurance.
