Yes, our contents insurance policies cover you if your food is spoiled as a result of any of the following:
- your refrigerator or freezer stopping or breaking down
- a power surge
- the power supply being accidentally disconnected.
If you have our contents insurance cover, you can claim up to $1,000 for any one event, and if you have our limited contents insurance cover you can claim up to $500. Your excess won't apply for spoiled food claims, so long as you don't need to claim on any other belongings. It's important to be aware that you're not covered for food that has been kept in connection with a business under this benefit.

If you need to make a claim for spoiled food, please take pictures of the inside of your fridge and/or freezer showing the spoiled food to help speed up the claims process.
