A multi-unit dwelling is when two or more houses are connected in some way. This could include being attached by a wall, garage or deck, or by sharing the same roof. A few examples of multi-unit dwellings are below.
Townhouse
A house designed as part of a block of houses on the same block of land, each with ground floor access.
Semi-detached (duplex, triplex, quadplex)
A building consisting of two to four separate dwellings, built side-by-side, usually sharing a common wall but detached from other buildings.
Terraced house
A row of adjoining, usually identical houses, each built to its side boundaries, often with two storeys.
Note: We don't offer house insurance for multi-unit dwellings which are in a block of 11 or more dwellings. If your house is one of 11 or more dwellings, we can offer you contents insurance only. If you're not sure if your house would be considered a multi-unit dwelling, please contact us.
