The Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) levy is a government charge that applies to most insurance policies to help fund Fire and Emergency New Zealand services, including firefighting, rescue operations, and emergency response across the country.
From 1 July 2026, the levy applies to all motor vehicle insurance policies, including Third Party Car Insurance. This means that even if your policy doesn’t cover fire damage, you’re still required to contribute to funding these essential emergency services.
The annual FENZ levy for motor vehicles is $25 per vehicle.
